NORTHERN SECTIONAL ROADEO--GALT, CA

CHAPTER 19 CENTRAL COAST ROADEO--WATSONVILLE, CA

On May 2nd, 2009, CASTO held the Northern Sectional Roadeo at the Galt Marketplace, in Galt, CA.  Gilroy, Pajaro Valley, San Lorenzo Valley, and MCOE (Monterey County Office of Ed.) were all there from Chapter 19.

The first picture is of the CASTO Chapter 19 group: Gilroy, Pajaro, and MCOE are included, but San Lorenzo was delayed for this picture.

So below is a snap of the San Lorenzo Valley team (thanks to Sherrie):

Joy O'Hara (left), Robin Baustian (middle), Sherrie Lust (right). They took 2nd place Best Represented. Paloma Vachon, their judge at Watsonville, was unable to attend Galt.

The above picture is of the MCOE team—they took 5 of the 6 awards for type B buses:  Brandy Acevedo, 1st place; Christine Caldeira, 2nd place; Mary Suniga, 3rd place; Laura Taylor, 5th place; and Eleanor Taylor, 6th place.  Brandy Acevedo, Christine Caldeira, and Eleanor Taylor took 3rd Place Team.  Monterey County Office of Education took 3rd Place Best Represented.

On Saturday, April 18, 2009, CHAPTER 19 held it's 23rd Annual Central Coast School Bus Roadeo at Pajaro Valley High School in Watsonville

There were 45 registered participants from 5 districts, and almost as many volunteers and spectators including CHP officers, volunteers for set-up  and judging, family, friends and rousing, cheering pep squads. The largest turn-out yet!

A complete list of the winners follows the thumbnail photos.

On Friday afternoon volunteers arrived to help set up the track, and then to enjoy companionship and a pot-luck barbeque (yum). School Bus drivers know how to enjoy! The various districts also set up barbeques and rest areas during the Roadeo.

Saturday started with registration at 7:45 a.m., and concluded with the awards ceremony ending just after 4:00 p.m. We all got to see our three CHP officers try to parallel park a 40 foot bus—a genuine treat. Special thanks must go to the two Roadeo co-chairs, Mark Verch and Mary Hoagland of Pajaro Valley School District Transportation Department: a daunting task—well and thoroughly performed.
